As the site is attracting interest from ex - Ryhill and Havercroft folk and people with ancestors local to us, this new page is to show material they have sent me.

The following was received from Gloria Bernhardt from Dunedin in the "Deep South" of New Zealand.

"Greetings from Aotearoa, New Zealand. My late mother came from Ryhill and I was fortunate enough to visit briefly in 1994 but did not have a good look around as I did not find anyone to talk to. I have a photo of her 1921 school class and an old photo of a postcard of the Ryhill Station.

Gloria has an excellent web site called "Barraclough from Barnsley" and it's well worth a visit, as it contains a report of her mother's departure from Ryhill to New Zealand, along with a list of surnames still common in our villages.

I have been contacted by Jean Heath, nee Merrington, who now lives in Spain. Jean has kindly e-mailed me a booklet entitled "Ryhill Village School, 1913-1947" and this is reproduced in full. It seems to be extracts from the Headmaster's school diaries over the years and gives an insight into life in Ryhill in the period covering the two World Wars. To read the booklet, click on the booklet title above.
